The SAT

What is the SAT?

The SAT is an entrance examination used by most colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore to make admission decisions. The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board.

Types of SAT

There are two types of SAT

  1. The General SAT: This was developed to evaluate the written, verbal and mathematical skills of the candidates.
  2. The SAT Subject Test: This is a more subject-focused test. Students looking to get admission to a particular course are required to take the SAT Subject Test to demonstrate their knowledge of that particular subject. Study Abroad

Why should you take the SAT?

The aim of the SAT is to assess high school students' college readiness. This will assist management in making an impartial and well-informed decision. In addition to the SAT score GPA from school and other records are also taken into consideration. The higher your SAT score, the more college choices you have.

When should you take the SAT?

The SAT exams are offered every year. It is ideal to begin taking it in junior year so that by senior year, you will have improved your grades. One of the best advantages for the SAT is that you can take it many times until you reach a satisfactory score

How does the SAT work?

The SAT is divided into two sections:

  • Math
  • Evidence-based Reading and Writing

The aforementioned sections are required for all students. The SAT also contains an optional Essay section. The Essay results are not included in the overall test score. Some colleges need an essay, so make sure you read the guidelines for the colleges you want to attend.

The exam duration is 3 hours. The exam duration with the Essay is 3 hours 50 minutes.

The total score for the SAT is 1600. If you are attending the Essay section that score will be calculated separately.
